Audition

The auditions for the National Youth Choir of Germany for 2025 have already taken place. However, we are still looking for altos, tenors and basses for some projects. In this respect, you can still apply and an individual online audition date will be arranged.

The National Youth Choir of Germany is made up of

  • young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 with choral experience,
  • whose main place of residence is in Germany or who are German citizens living abroad and
  • who enjoy sharing their passion for choral music at a high artistic level with like-minded people.

Applicants are required to submit three video or audio files as part of the application process. Your musical background and submitted files will be reviewed to determine if you will be invited to the online audition. Please provide the audio or video files as links.

  1. Link: An aria, a lied, or a song of your choice, accompanied by piano
  2. Link: A traditional folk song (Volkslied), two verses sung unaccompanied
  3. Link: Several repetitions of a chromatically shifted exercise demonstrating the range of your voice

Links can direct to a cloud storage service or a video platform such as YouTube or Vimeo (we recommend uploading the video as “unlisted”).

The auditions will be held online.

The online audition typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes and includes the following components: a compulsory piece (provided with your invitation), sight singing, a rhythm reading exercise, and vocal exercises of your choice.

Once you pass the audition, you will be required to complete a binding registration for the various projects of the upcoming project year through a digital registration form. The project team, along with Artistic Director Anne Kohler, will then create the cast lists based on the registrations received. Approximately two weeks later, the selected projects and their casts will be announced.
